1.1 To lay down a procedure for storage and
handling of flammable materials.
2.0 Scope
2.1 This SOP shall be applicable in
flammable materials storage area of NAME Pharmaceuticals Limited.

/ hazardous material.
7.0 Procedure
7.1
Storage area of such flammable solvents should
be away from main building of plant & warehouse with lock & key
arrangement. There should be restricted in this area.
7.2
Flammable solvents store should be well
ventilated. The area must be equipped with latest & approved fire
extinguisher system.
7.3
Ensure that the earthing systems provide in the
flammable solvents stores in proper and each & every drum and pump is
covered by earthing connection.
7.4
Unload the material by deduction of drums &
checking for weight take the drums to flammable solvent storage area.
7.5
While unloading of flammable solvents ensures
that there is no leakage & damage in drums.
7.6
While unloading or during storage, if leakage
or damaged observed, shift the solvent in other empty drum with the help of
pneumatic pressure pump. Empty replacing drum must have been used previously
for the same solvent.
7.7
While issue use FIFO system.
7.8
Use protective equipment i.e., rubber gloves,
spectacle, transparent facemask etc.
7.9
While opening the lid, unscrew it slowly so as
to let the air / vapors pass out.
7.10
Ensure earthing connection to the pump.
Dispense the required quantity of solvent in 25-liter GL drums. Switch on air
pressure. Start pneumatic pump. Put SS pneumatic pump inside the Drum. Close
the knob of pressurized air.
7.11
Put the lid on drum. Close it tightly, Mark the
drum as ‘’ LOOSE ‘’ for identification.
7.12
Switch off lights. Lock the inflammable solvent
storage room.
7.13
Put the filled 25-liter drums in a carrier
trolley and carry to air lock of coating area in properly closed condition.
